The next day we took a motorcoach to the outskirts of St Petersburg to visit the totally unbelievable palace that Peter the Great had built in order for him to watch over the creation of his navy.  Catherine the Great finished much of what Peter started, including the Grand Staircase you can see below.  The history of this palace is very interesting and includes photos from inside which I was not allowed to take!
