Basel is a commercial center since it sits on one of the largest navigable rivers in Europe. It is a major port for goods going to the south and north. Basel was founded by Celtic people over 3,000 years ago. Taken and rebuilt by the Romans it has become a very busy port for Switzerland.
Basel is a terrific city to walk around with superb light rail street cars. Finally, Marilynn gets to stand at the juncture of three countries in Basel: Switzerland, France, and Germany.
