New York City

The cruise to New York was a day long and night on open ocean.  I got photos of the Great Shearwater birds and Marilynn scored a terrific shot of dolphins heading to a feed near our ship.  Once coming into New York I got a nighttime shot of the Statue of Liberty-something I have always wanted to see.  Viking handled our ship to airport transfer beautifully including a 3 hour bus tour with stops at New York highlights:  9/11 memorial and a park with a view of the harbor.  Thus ended for us a remarkable trip that we will always remember as completely rewarding.

This is a Great Shearwater taking off.  They remain at sea for everything except mating and raising chicks.  Audubon read is interesting: <https://www.audubon.org/field-guide/bird/great-shearwater>

They just skim the surface of the water looking for food.

Marilynn photographed a leaping dolphin from our room on the starboard side.

Just as dawn was breaking I got this panorama of the harbor.

I was told the wrong time to get up to really have a closer look, so I found myself a quarter mile away with only my 108mm lens.  I need to thank modern software and my large camera file size for being able to get an image this clear.  I’m so glad I finally got to see this icon of America!

Our Guide on the bus tour of New York.  Very enthusiastic and knowledgable.
