CAP TOURMENTE NATIONAL WILDLIFE AREA

So we boarded a school bus and motored out of Quebec City for an hour and a half to see this estuary that hosts migrating birds.  We talked with a young man who catches and bands birds to track their migration patterns. He also caught a bird in the netting while there and showed how they handled them so that they don’t panic.  This was a fabulous stop for us.  Look here:  <https://www.quebec-cite.com/en/businesses/cap-tourmente-national-wildlife-area<.

Reading in the shade at the park.

While he was talking to us, a sparrow was caught in the netting.  He carefully untangled it.

After he explained the banding process, a bird flew into the netting.  He carefully extracted the bird and showed how to hold them to they remain immobile.

A closeup shows the gentle hold.  This was really neat.  They record all the results and use the data to track migration patterns and timing in the era of climate change.

Bands used on larger birds they catch.

saw a small woodpecker in the feeder.

The tranquil stream running through the park.

Colors were happening.

And on the hills above the park.

And, finally, my idea of a Cezanne painting.
