Where the Two Armies Met

We transferred from the hotel to the boat.  The Elbe Princess out of Luxembourg.  It turned out we would have to transfer to another Princess due to low water in the Elbe caused by restricted flow from the Czech Republic mountains.

Once on the boat we met the two resident historians who would accompany our journey. They would lecture each night for over an hour and ride the busses with us to inland sites.  Their presence made the trip truly incredible.

The one loss for the trip was the WWII veteran T. Moffatt Burriss who fought all through Italy, was part of Operation Market Garden in Belgium, and crossed the Elbe River in 1945.  He could not make the trip due to ill health. I have included a link to a video he was able to make prior to the trip - it is an amazing thing to watch.

If you click on Mr Burriss’ photo you will be directed to a You Tube interview where he explains how he singlehandedly captured an entire German Corps after crossing the Elbe River.  This is one of the most amazing stories of WWII period.

Potsdam, the meeting that carved up Europe.
