The huge refuge/fortress/agricultural center of ollantaytambo remains one of the most remarkable stdructures in the histor of Peru.  It is the only place where the Spanish were routed on their way to conquering the Inca. <https://www.peru.travel/en/masperu/ollantaytambo-an-architectural-jewel-on-the-way-to-machu-picchu>.  Located in the upper end of the Sacred Valley of the Incas it remains a  busy little town.

The red dirt of Peru’s mountains is really just this color.  

Children will  be happy to pose for you to get a good photograph,  but be sure to tip or you might hear some strong remarks!
