Lifelong dream was to one day visit Machu Picchu and I was not at all disappointed. Our guide, Francis, actually played the pan pipes in a ritual request to enter Machu Picchu.  He also played when we departed thanking deity for   being allowed to be there.  I want anyone to know he was dead serious  because I asked him.   There isn’t any clear way to explain the sense of calm when one steps onto these grounds, but it affected all of us like that.

Well done history is here:  <https://www.history.com/topics/south-america/machu-picchu>.  We first travelled by train along the river and then boarded a bus for the 4000 foot climb to the site.
