Our next stop was the tiny hill town of Zarcero.  We stopped there because our guide, Guillermo, knew the 80+ year old gentleman who has devoted his entire life to creating a topiary in front of his church.  He began this work as a teenager and has never stopped.  Recently, a priest newly assigned told him he was through working because he was too old to continue.  The town went into an uproar, the priest was transferred, and he now has a crew of young people to aid him in his vision for the garden.  His name is Evangelista Blanco and has been the subject of many media stories:  <http://www.bluewaterpropertiesofcostarica.com/man-behind-perfect-little-park-costa-rica/>

The church officially apologized to Evangelista:<https://qcostarica.com/church-apologizes-to-don-evangelista-and-returns-him-to-zarcero-park/>
