Azay le Rideau was completely destroyed by Charles VII as he fled south.  It remained destroyed until rebuilt by the mayor of Tours in 1518.  Today it is a tourist site of national heritage with a wetland that is protected.  The setting and castle are beautiful.  The history of this place is well written in this article on Wikipedia which is not linkable due to an error in their publication.  I have copied from it and you can read the history of this unique chateau here.
